This is the story of Space Nation One, the first city in L5 orbit.  Today, on the 40th anniversary of the project’s inception in 2005, we have achieved the remarkable millionth visitor in the last twelve months!  The city’s population is nearing 100,000, with a daily influx approaching 3.000 visitors.  Most of our visitors come on vacation, to enjoy our unique view of the universe, low gravity entertainment and sports, and our wonderful casinos.  But many also come on business, and for treatment in our “Universe Class” hospitals.

This story was written as a collaborative effort of the project’s earliest contributors, although edited somewhat for historical accuracy.

In the beginning, there was the Internet, which then brought forth the website SpaceNationOne.com!  Hehe, I always wanted to write an “in the beginning” 🙂  The website was started to attract  the great collaboration that created SpaceNationOne.  Initially there was a $20 deposit required, which created a SNC 20 (SpaceNationOne Credits) deposit in the First National Bank of SpaceNationOne.  The new “citizen” was then also rewarded with directions for installing and using a free email SSL certificate, and his own webpage for composing his part of the collaboration.

The Great Collaboration resulted quickly in our national emblems, a constitution and most importantly, substantial contributions permitting purchase of an island on which to base our country on the planet, while planning and building the space city.  There were design contests for the currency, stamps, flag and seals of the new country.  The winning designs were rewarded with SNC deposits in varying amounts.  Of course, the Credits couldn’t buy much of anything back then, although soon afterward some goods and services were made available, like this book, and various internet services.   And the Credits could be used for future transportation fees to and from SpaceNationOne.
